Re: The Falkland Islands
They just weren't at war with Argentina; not their dog in the fight. New Zealand also considered sending warships as part of the task force, and several senior US politicians (Caspar Weinberger in particular) were keen to militarily support the UK.
I guess your're right. Butt was it...

Re: New Zealand Defence Force

How much do the Kiwis spend on their defense? Don't they only have like 2 combat battalions?

IIRC, they were disappointed that they didn't, but the Falklands wasn't a NATO deployment.
do you have a link? So was their amphibious force strictly only for NATO purposes?

Re: Differences/Similarities between Royal Marines and other Marine units

Thanks for the responses.

How do the Royal Marines compare to say some of the other Euro Marines like the Spanish/Italian/French/Portuguese?

I believe wikipedia notes that the RM are the only European Marine unit that can operate at brigade level.

Re: DANEMARK

Do you think Danish defense changed drastically the moment they committed themselves to the Iraq war and sending a large contingent to fight in Helmand? I'm aware they had a more robust role (than other nations in Yugoslavia) but with Iraq and Afghanistan, they were engaged in heavy warfighting as o...

Re: Belgian Armed Forces

why was the Belgian contribution to ISAF not as strongly reinforced as similar nations of its size (such as Dutch/Norwegian/Danish) in regard to size of troops or role of the troops or even being in charge of a PRT?

Re: NORGE/Norway

I gotta give big props to the Norwegians on the highly efficient and well trained units they have considering the size. Like their Telemark battalion and Jegerkompaniet and Coastal Rangers to name but a few.

Differences/Similarities between Royal Marines and other Marine units

between British Royal Marines and the US Marines and Dutch Marines and other European Marines/amphibious units.

The RM are elite of course, but how does their training or combat experience compare to the others?
