Re: Dreadnought 2050
Even if all the listed technology was viable in the given time frame, I really can't see the RN going for such a radical change in hull configuration for the Type 26 replacement (which I guess this would be).
Still, its fun to imagine what the future will be...

Re: Challenger 2 Main Battle Tank (Army)
Some very hard questions should be asked about whether a 700 million pounds expense for "maintaining the current capability by removing obsolescence" is in any way a good deal, or if 700 million pounds wouldn't be best employed in a different way. It's obvious the top brass see the C2 LEP...

Re: RE: Re: UK's successor submarines
I'm sure that they are, but since they've not been shy about backing off or delaying other things that they've been fully committed to for political expediency or advantage it's worth pointing out the potential political reasons why they might look to delay a vote. The Tories will not hesitate to b...

Re: UK's successor submarines
The vote can't be delayed, the time frame is set for the introduction of the first boat in 2028.
It has already been delayed once, there can't be another one for military and industrial reasons, it has to be 2016.

Re: UK's successor submarines
Looking forward to the vote in Parliament next year, giving final approval to the Successor class. We will have the unedifying, but hugely satisfying sight of Labour rebels voting with the Government and against that lefty prick Corbyn (if he becomes leader) and the SNP knuckledraggers wailing and w...

Re: Challenger 2 Main Battle Tank (Army)
The only real issue is penetrator length and muzzle velocity, both of which are hilariously impotent and 10 years behind the curve. It'd be comical if it wasn't so potentially morbid for our crewmen. But it wouldn't be the British Army we know and love if it weren't going into battle with outdated ...

The comments section to the article is comedy gold..all in keeping with their extremely arrogant, chippy nature. On a more important note, the press are reporting on Saudia Arabia's economic prospects as basically going down the toilet over the next 10yrs, which could mean curtains for another follo...

Re: Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers - News and Discussion
I do find it rather nauseating when politicians from the current government sing the praises of the 2nd aircraft carrier and the global reach it will give the RN and the UK, when given half the chance they would have cancelled it's construction in 2010 if the contracts hadn't been locked down. And T...

Re: Typhoon
Meanwhile we need to find some one to offload our tranche 1 on to. I thought the plan being formulated by the RAF was to keep the Tranche 1 aircraft (with meteor) solely as UK air defence, and use the upgraded Tranche 2&3 as replacements for any cut in the order for the F35. If the Carriers get...

The point is, would you risk tackling a man with a gun pointed at you, gambling that it wasn't loaded?Tiny Toy wrote: The UK’s current nuclear deterrent is fully operationally independent of the US". That's clearly not the case, though, is it?

When Turkey has now started designing better tanks than a leading NATO nation, something has gone terribly wrong somewhere down the line. Re: rifle 5.56mm L85/A1/A2/ (The Rifle/ Sa80)
I thought I read somewhere that any replacement has been put back by a few years at least, after all the upgrades the weapon has had, I doubt a replacement is a priority for the top brass in the budget cuts environment we are now in. Also the replacement will have to be an 'off the shelf' purchase, ...

British Forces Personal Issue Kit Thread
Thought this would be a good thread to have, detailing any new kit that gets issued to the UK Armed forces, the last decade has seen a transformational leap forward in the quality of kit issued to the British fighting man and woman, one of the only genuine plus sides to the last 15yrs of counter ins...
