Re: Type 31 General Purpose Frigate
Since the P.M is in China perhaps some Chinese naval vessels could be looked at to meet costs, a version of the 053h-3 light frigate used by the Pakistan navy weighing in around U.S$200 might be considered a bargain by the M.O.D , just kidding of course

Re: Type 31 General Purpose Frigate
With regards to growth is it just a matter of increasing the size of vessels , to have unsused space from added length so that future additions could be fitted keeping ship more relevant in the future , can a "light frigate" be of a size to one day be a regular frigate ?

Re: UK's Future T26 Frigate.
My suggestion about asw potential for the type 45 was about addressing the lack of asw ships ,certainly as a carrier escort these duties would be carried out by the type 26 , but the type 45 may be called apon for other duties and having asw abilities of that level to attend where there was not a ty...

Re: UK's Future T26 Frigate.
There might be a question of the effectiveness of the Arleigh Burkes towed sonar that has more recently been added if the ship was not originally designed for a high level of accoustic stealth and subsequent noise from the ship itself hinders detection abilities

Re: UK's Future T26 Frigate.
My comments were not to suggest the Hobart class was accoustically quiet or not, just that addressing accoustics for specialist asw vessels are expensive, Im not aware of Navantias proposals in its design for accoustics very little detail is provided ,more so on the Fremm and type 26

Re: UK's Future T26 Frigate.
The issue with the Hobart class was construction costs and being way over budget ,if a similar sized asw version can be expected because of noise dampening to be significantly more expensive , could get interesting

Re: UK's Future T26 Frigate.
The Canadian navy procurement plan is for two different ships one an aaw vessel with command and control abilities, the other a general purpose vessel ,not asw focussed ,they have emphasised proven capability , this may preclude the T26 ,but not derivitives of the f105 and the Fremm class

Re: South China Sea
The question is how can small nation states defend their sovereignity if a larger state will not accept the results of international court rulings ,
if the inability of court rulings can decide matters then certainly other nations can be expected by military dplomacy exert their "rights" .

Re: Future RN Amphibious Shipping
I can recall Desertswo making some arguments against lean crewing numbers and the ships ability in damage control ,certainly if amphibious ships can be expected to operate closer to shore than the carriers it would be at greater risk ,would a larger ship with more multiple compartments and trained l...

Re: Future RN Amphibious Shipping
There is certainly a convincing argument that amphibious shipping has to be multi role ,there could be an argument that to be effective a proposed ship would have to be larger than the Canberra class to have an effective amount of all the elements to be carried for deployment , perhaps something app...
