Re: Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers - News and Discussion
Not a great deal to pass on regarding her progress, no real info on the chains either.

Quite busy down here at the dockyard, 3 or 4 Merlin's have landed on QNLZ, at least one was a Crowsnest.

QE has left Portsmouth, passing the Round Tower at 13:25.
No one and nothing on the flight deck, no big crowds, kind of low key, routine and samey now.
And no photos. Yawn.

(Forces News) 10th November 2022
Royal Navy flagship HMS Queen Elizabeth has deployed from Portsmouth to lead a Carrier Strike Group in northern Europe alongside allies.
The aircraft carrier left Portsmouth Naval Base, Hampshire, to take part in Operation Achillean which will include warships, helicopters, and F35-B Lightning fighter jets.
(Cobra Emergency) 10th November 2022
The Royal Navy's flagship aircraft carrier, HMS Queen Elizabeth, deploys from Portsmouth for a European Carrier Strike Group operation.
HMS Queen Elizabeth will lead the Carrier Strike Group of warships from multiple allied nations on Operation Archillean, with F35 Lightning IIs and Merlin helicopters on-board.
The Carrier Strike Group will deploy to Northern Europe for NATO security operations and exercises, including patrols of the Baltic Sea.
On departure from His Majesty's Naval Base Portsmouth, the Queen Elizabeth-class aircraft carrier received an escort from Ministry of Defence Police. Tugs from Serco turned the ship around.
Merlin helicopters landed on deck the previous day before being moved into hangars below.
High winds made it a challenging shoot! Even with our wind-breaker microphone piece.

Spoke to, and saw nipper, as he was down for a week's course at HMS Collingwood. He is really disheartened.
After signing on for an extra 2 year stint on PWLS to go with the Americas tour, the prop issue happened. He said he will go for a shore based role when his next assignment is due, I've tried to say this is for when you're married and got nippers of your own, now is the time to go out about the world on a ship with the RN and have less committments at home...we shall see.
I understand his point of view, I guess that's life on board a new class of ship. He reckons end of first quarter 2023 is when he will stop filling Dunfermline drinking establishments coffers with his pounds.

Historically, the RN's previous carriers have had their centre-deck lift shafts painted black too.

8 jets for a 70k ton carrier. That will have Putin shaking in his boots. 6 to protect the carrier and 2 for offense?hovematlot wrote: ↑11 Nov 2022, 21:518 flew out from Marham this afternoon in 4 waves of 2 to embark on QNLZ in the North Sea

And it's an exercise, not war.
Re: Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers - News and Discussion
8 SHar's could beat Putin at the moment, let alone F-35's
Re: Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers - News and Discussion
Eight. Two between the islands too.^
Re: Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers - News and Discussion
Do we not even have enough available for 12 aircraft onboard for this short department at least , Maybe other commitments or just maintenance issues? Thought they would have done 12 especially showing the flag at least in a ongoing war
Re: Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers - News and Discussion
This is normal complement for a full sqn deployment i don’t know why it’s an issue.

Because the carrier is designed to be able to take several squadrons. Sorry but the “aircraft carrier with no aircraft” thing is sounding truer as time passes.

Well this is reality meeting rhetoric! Been the case since before they started construction.

Maybe need to double up on the loyal wingman UAVs….
Re: Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers - News and Discussion
All fast jet sqns comprise 10-12 a/c. But when they deploy as a sqn, 8 a/c is what is sent. It’s been that way for decades.
