I used to subscribe (to the magazine) in the 60s. When Jeeps and Morris (Minor) Travellers were both made with wooden sides.

In those days guns were for hunting game (or shooting at enemies; not at your fellow citizens).

I have to say many will find it disturbing how such an organisation accrued so much political power and became so strongly associated with one part of the political spectrum.
