Voice to parliament and the ADF

Post by R686 »

Seems like a bit of confusion in the YES campaign on what the Voice to parliament means to RAN nuclear submarines.

The YES campaign not doing themselves any favours when they can't even say how much impact they will have on other areas besides direct influence on Aboriginal affairs.
Artist Sally Scales said Aboriginal communities should be consulted on aspects of the nuclear subs deal, including where they will be docked. …

Mr Pearson told a La Trobe University event the constitutional amendment – which states the voice would make representations on “matters relating to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples” – was unlikely to extend to issues such as parking fines and submarines, a rejection of a key No campaign argument.

Just to put it out there I intend to vote NO to voice to Parliament.

Thank God we have a codified constitution in Australia unlike the UK and double majority referendums.

Sadly this referendum does not have any ability to address the standards of living of the indigenous community, it does not have any responsibility in closing the gap aims ,amending the constitution to recognise the original inhabitants of Australia without stating why that addresses any concerns unless it can be shown they have not been receiving equal rights as to any citizen ,the Mabo decision in court was more important for setting out rights ,unfortunately there are believed many people who now claim Indigenous heritage without proof to claim benefits creating cynicism across many this referendum is also seen by many as a grand gesture as to be doing something
