GRiD Computers

Post by Timmymagic »

Another one of those little known UK military suppliers who are a quiet success...

GRiD Computers of Buckinghamshire. They manufacture extremely ruggedised Laptops, Tablets and other computer items for military and security customers. Their devices can be seen in AFV's, in command posts and used as Data Entry Units for missile launch systems (like the Thales LML).

Some case studies...

Principal competitor for some of their products are the Panasonic Toughbook series, however the GRiD units take it to another level, particularly with their TEMPEST cleared units.

Hopefully they'll release some smaller Android tablets/mobile phones in due course.

So do they take all the sub-components of existing laptops and then fit the guts into a hard shell, or what?

I'm pretty sure they built the Bowman UDT but can't see anything online to collaborate.

Essentially they do that. They'll make a generic laptop in a hardened and emissions proof casing with military grade connectors.

What I mean is do they buy acer or lenovo or what ever company laptop then re shell it / modify it, or are they custom builds.
