The Corps of Royal Engineers, usually called the Royal Engineers (RE), and commonly known as the Sappers, is the engineering arm of the British Army. It provides military engineering and other technical support to the British Armed Forces and is headed by the Chief Royal Engineer. The Corps Headquarters and the Royal School of Military Engineering are in Chatham in Kent, England. The corps is divided into several regiments, barracked at various places in the United Kingdom and around the world.

How British Army gets drinking water to frontline troops

The Royal Engineers have been testing a Combat Water Supply System in the River Monnow in South Wales.

Water is sucked out of the river and treated as it would be on operations or humanitarian missions where access to drinking water is limited or the supply is contaminated.

The system takes about an hour to set up and can then produce up to 1,800 litres (396 gallons) of water in an hour and store 5,000 litres (1,100 gallons) of purified water.
