Disney have bought 21st Century Fox Inc. for $52.4 Billion.

This means that Disney now owns ALL of the Star Wars films, because Fox owned Episode IV A New Hope and was not sold to Disney by Lucasfilm.
https://thewaltdisneycompany.com/walt-d ... ion-stock/

Could this mean the Fox Fanfare logo and theme, missing from new Star Wars films since George Lucas sold Lucasfilm to Disney, could return for Episode 9?

STAR WARS (Episode VIII): THE LAST JEDI - Review by SKB

PLOT:
UK Certificate: 12A
Running Time: 2 hours, 30 minutes

Plot
Resistance fighters led by General Leia Organa evacuate their main base on D'Qar when a First Order fleet reaches the planet. After the fight, the Resistance vessels jump into hyperspace to escape. Organa reprimands Poe Dameron for a successful but costly counter-strike which destroyed a First Order super star destroyer while Supreme Leader Snoke reprimands General Hux for his failure to block the evacuation. Hux tracks the Resistance and a long pursuit begins, with the Resistance relying on their spaceships' mobility and shields to survive while their fuel supplies dwindle. During one battle, Kylo Ren hesitates to attack the lead Resistance ship after sensing the presence of his mother Leia onboard. TIE fighters destroy the bridge of the ship, killing many Resistance leaders, Leia is incapacitated and is cast adrift out into open space. Leia, seemingly dead, uses the Force to propel herself back aboard the ship to safety and is rushed to the medical bay. Vice Admiral Amilyn Holdo takes command. Disapproving of their new leaders' passive strategy, Poe, Finn, BB-8 and mechanic Rose Tico embark on a secret plan to disable the First Order fleet's tracking device, which can now track a spacecraft during a hyperspace jump.

Rey meets Luke Skywalker on the water-world Ahch-To, having travelled there with Chewbacca and R2-D2 aboard the Millennium Falcon, but Luke declines to teach her as a Jedi Master and casually tosses away the lightsabre Rey has passed back to him. Luke then hurries off and isolates himself in an ancient stone dwelling. For a few days, Rey follows Luke around on the island at a distance, Luke is seen milking a creature and spear fishing. Luke knows Rey is watching him, but he ignores her. Rey and Kylo secretly begin having visions of each other and initiate a dialogue. After learning of Han Solo's death, Luke eventually agrees to give basic initiation to Rey, explaining the Force and his failure as a Jedi Master. Luke and Kylo give Rey different accounts of the incident that swayed Kylo toward the First Order and Luke to his hermit life. Unable to convince Luke to join the Resistance, Rey leaves the planet without him to confront Kylo. Luke sees the Force ghost of Yoda, who tells him that failure is the greatest teacher.

Vice Admiral Holdo reveals her plan to discreetly evacuate the remaining Resistance members using small transports. Believing her actions to be cowardly and risky, Poe instigates a mutiny. Finn, Rose, and BB-8 recruit the computer pirate DJ at a casino on Canto Bight, believing that he will be able to help them disable the tracking device. They infiltrate the lead First Order ship, but are captured by Captain Phasma. BB-8 manages to escape. Meanwhile, Rey lands on the same ship and is seized by Kylo. During a confrontation with Snoke, she urges Kylo to rebel. Snoke explains that he controlled the mental connection between Kylo and her as part of a plan to destroy Luke. Ordered to kill Rey, Kylo instead kills Snoke. Rey and Kylo work together to kill Snoke's guards. Kylo asks Rey to help him build a new order, but Rey refuses and asks him to join the Resistance. They struggle through the Force, resulting in Rey’s escape. Kylo declares himself the new Supreme Leader.

Having recovered, Leia neutralizes Poe and allows the evacuation to begin. Holdo remains on the main ship to provide cover, as the others escape to a nearby old Rebel Alliance base. However, DJ reveals the Resistance's plan to the First Order, and the evacuation transports are targeted with heavy losses; Holdo rams the command ship to stop the barrage. BB-8 frees Rose and Finn, who escape after defeating Captain Phasma, and join the survivors of the evacuation. When the First Order arrives, Poe, Finn, and Rose lead a charge with old speeders but take heavy fire. The Falcon arrives and draws the TIE fighters away, while Finn narrowly fails to destroy the main enemy cannon, letting the weapon blast a hole into the fortress' defense.

Luke appears, giving hope to the Resistance. He confronts Kylo alone, giving the surviving Resistance fighters time to escape. When Kylo strikes Luke with his lightsaber, he learns that he has been fighting a Force projection, and Luke is still on the Ahch-To island. Luke defiantly tells Kylo that he will not be the last Jedi, as Rey clears the path for the remaining Resistance members escaping the base through old mine tunnels.

On Ahch-To, Luke's body vanishes as he dies in peace, having exhausted his living Force powers for the projection. The remaining Resistance fighters escape aboard the Falcon. Rey looks at the small numbers hopelessly. Leia, however, states that the Rebellion now has all that is needed to rise again. Back on Canto Bight, one of the stable boys uses the Force to retrieve a broom. He stares up into the sky and wields the broom like a lightsabre. The End.
REACTION & OVERALL SCORE:
TLJ Sucks.jpg
My Reaction
This film starts promisingly, but sadly, The Last Jedi is nowhere near as good as any of the Original Trilogy and once again has reused and recycled scenes from all three Original Trilogy films. It even struggles to be as good as some of the Prequel Trilogy films. It is possibly the worst Star Wars film ever made.

The island training scenes are basically Dagobah again, complete with mystical trees and a dark side cave. There is barely any training seen, there's not even a cheesy "Rocky" style training montage. Rey only gets a very basic three lesson crashcourse which lasts barely a day. Yoda's Force ghost makes an appearance and is a very uncanny looking puppet that has none of the charm of the one in The Empire Strikes Back.

The Rey vs Kylo Ren vs Snoke scene was basically the Death Star 2 Throne room fight scene from Return Of The Jedi again, except Palpatine, Darth Vader and Luke have been replaced with Snoke, Kylo Ren and Rey. Snoke is an extremely shallow and weak arch villain character with very little back story or motivation exposition. Snoke is sliced in two by Kylo Ren and Snoke is now dead midway through this Sequel Trilogy, which seems a waste of a character with barely any screentime. Snoke's origins are not mentioned or revealed.

The final battle scene on Crait also has echoes of the Hoth battle scene from The Empire Strikes Back, with speeders and giant AT-AT walkers on a white surface, which is not snow, but salt. How convenient for a Rebel soldier to literally inform us too.

There is far too much awkward, misplaced and uncharacteristic "humour" in the film which is at times extremely jarring, annoying, slapstick, predictable, unnecessary and distracting from the story. Dramatic scenes are weakened by stupid little puns and visual gags.

Once again, the cute ball droid BB-8 is given all the screen time, with droids R2-D2 and C-3PO being relegated to mere background scenery. In fact, BB-8 kills more people than Snoke and Luke Skywalker combined in this film.

There is an utterly pointless side plot with the new characters Rose and Finn having to go off to a gambling planet to locate a computer hacker. Once there, it's nothing more than a remake of the Cantina scene from the original film, or Cloud City from The Empire Strikes Back. Then there's an utterly pointless street chase through city streets on some creatures that look like wooly giraffes with big pointy ears.

Rey's parentage question is finally answered. Her parents are nobodys who lived on Jakku as scavengers and both are long dead. She is not related to the Skywalkers, Solo's or Kenobi's. Han Solo does not even get a posthumous funeral or a remembrance service either.

I have seen Star Wars The Last Jedi twice, in 2D and 3D IMAX. I do not have any overwhelming desire to see it again in the near future, although I will get it on bluray just to complete the collection. Interestingly, this was the first Star Wars film I've ever seen that didn't receive a single clap of applause from a single person in the audience. There were also quite a few empty seats, which for a Star Wars film, was unusually weird to experience.

There are no special added scenes at the end of the credits, so don't bother waiting around for any Leia tributes or Han Solo film previews. Its also a very long film, lasting two and a half hours long.

DO NOT EVER SEE THIS FILM IF YOU LOVE THE ORIGINAL TRILOGY OF STAR WARS! IT WILL RUIN THEM FOR YOU FOREVER!

Today marks the 40th anniversary of the 27th December 1977 first UK release of the first original Star Wars film, known then simply as just "Star Wars" before it was retitled "A New Hope" when other later sequels were made.

I must admit I was very disappointed by the Last Jedi. Of the recent Star Wars films, the best in my mind has been Rogue One.

I was actually rather disappointed with Rogue One. This was an opportunity to shoot Guns of Navarone in space but was ruined by all the totally unnecessary "force" nonsense and the American obsession with family. Everyone has to be related in US tv/film dramas. Makes the plotlines visible from a mile off. Terribly predictable and sentimental (see Guardians of the Galaxy 2). Rogue One was a chance to break the cycle. Hopefully future standalone films will have the courage to plow their own furrow and just be good sci fi films.

Fully agreed. I just watched it 2 days ago, big dissapointment. They could do it way better.
Fortune favors brave sir, said Carrot cheerfully.
What's her position about heavily armed, well prepared and overmanned armies?
Oh, noone's ever heard of Fortune favoring them, sir.
According to General Tacticus, it's because they favor themselves…

I'm not into the whole Star Wars thing but my son wanted to see it the last Jedi, besides being totally lost to what was going on as the last one I saw was number III return of the Jedi. what struck me was how political correct it is and if a lot of roles were reversed people would howl it down as being racist and demeaning to the female species.

If you are a white male try not to take it the you are the root of all evil

To me, it also seemed to have a very anti meat and pro animal rights agenda in it. Which is weird to put into a spacey sci-fi adventure film.

I found it an OK film, but not really a "Star Wars" film...

I was worried about "Solo" before seeing Last Jedi, now I'm dreading it
