I don't get it. If the visor is tough and transparent, why not make the chin/jaw piece also transparent to improve overall vision?

You wouldn't see much extra through your jawline, and the current jawpiece is almost certainly tougher then the transparent stuff.

Not to mention no doubt cheaper.

Realistically, I don't think the eye relief on any NV is good enough that you could mount them in front of the visor anyway.

Even the ANVIS ones that pilots use with with long eye relief to look at instruments in their peripheral vision, only have eye relief of around 25mm

Hideous, un-British and ridiculous. Especially the sunglasses. Its a proven fact that concealing the eyes (therefore blocking eye-to-eye contact) in a face-to-face tense situation between two opposing sides can often escalate into physical/violent confrontation.

Whilst utility should always be the be all and end all when it comes to the provision of kit i can't say i don't lament as to how the new VIRTUS kit has lost that distinctive British appearance that Opsrey and its predecessors managed to provide.

C'on, have you not seen the glasses in real life? They come with changeable lenses (yellow does no blocking, of eye contact, but still filters sun light without losing the contours as much as the darker lenses do) and a proper holder, which means that they will last for more than a month (not an issue in gvmnt issue, but hikers who buy their own kit appreciate that).

Ah, right you are. Presumably however all the remaining bits of DPM kit that we see in pictures on occasion will be phased out upon the force wide introduction of the VIRTUS kit? Or is the plan simply to use it until it falls apart - then replace it with the new stuff?

It's a bit of column A and a bit of column B.

From the sounds of things the toothy bits of 16AAB and 3CDO are getting it full-scale new-issue, while everyone else gets it as their old stuff gets too shagged for use and goes off to the disposal people.

DPM is retro and old skool now.

I like to throw the odd piece on when visiting Army units to make the RSM geezer go spastic.

Negative attitude? Initial order for 7000 full kits... it is not rocket science who will get them first (more to follow?)

What 'things' have you been listening too?

Shagged kit gets replaced not palmed off.

I was basing it on what you posted earlier. And phrased it badly; my implication was that other units would theoretically start introducing it as their Ospreys etc. became no longer fit for service and were sent off for disposal.
