Impressive. How many decibels?GastonGlocker wrote:Leap forward:
I've fired 5.56 without hearing protection in Afghan. and it hurts. The noise never translates onto media footage though.
It gives the impression that the sound is no louder than popcorn.
(Respect to my forebears who used 7.62 and .303/.300 without hearing protection.)

Older competition shooters did not realise that the sharp .22 bang is on par with an assault rifle (venting of gases better arranged to allow serial fire)

and hence most have a hearing problem on one side, if not both.

Ever-lasting truths: Multi-year budgets/ planning by necessity have to address the painful questions; more often than not the Either-Or prevails over Both-And.

As far as decibel reduction, I would say considerable. Muzzle blast in tight spaces is definitely amplified.
This is impressive as .50BMG creates quite the shockwave.
Here's some good comparisons:

Armchaircivvy, the .22 can be surprisingly loud, especially in shorter barrels.
Will try to get to that file you referenced on my PC.
Arfah, yes, the crack of the 5.56 is "crackier" than some .30 cals imo.
Does the bullpup amplify this with muzzle being a bit closer?

Re: Evolution jump in suppressors -OSS tech
Apologies, Windows 10 again fooled me with their "uniform look" for the internet and files already on the hard drive , to make me create a link to the latter. Should have been:
https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=suppr ... qBjykAM%3A
The graphics comparison is a bit deceiving as the logarithmic scale of decibels comes across as linear, but that is actually how the human senses also work (and the 140 db barrier is quite soundly established through research).
