In the summer of 2018, England reached their first World Cup semi-final since Italia 1990. Manager Gareth Southgate praised the training his team received from Royal Marines prior to the tournament, stating the togetherness found within the England camp stemmed from their commando training, led by Major Scotty Mills

Portsmouth FC have sold out their alloted ticket allocation to Wembley this Sunday for the EFL Checkatrade Trophy Final, vs Sunderland.

There are expected to be 41,000 Pompey fans present, although many fans have boycotted the competion this season due to the "cheapening" of the competition by the controversial inclusion of youth teams from the Premier League, who do not even play in the EFL.

This weekends match will be Pompey's first trip to Wembley since the year 2010, when they met Chelsea in the FA Cup Final, narrowly losing 1-0.

Iconic Fratton Park floodlights to be removed.
Image

Fratton Park was the first football ground in England to host evening league matches under floodlights. The four floodlight pylons have been a landmark in Portsmouth since 1962 and were paid for by supporters. Fratton Park's floodlight pylons are to be used for the very last time tomorrow (Thursday 16 May 2019) when Pompey play Sunderland in the second leg of the League One play-off semi final.

In 2015, the two northern pylons were decommissioned when new roof edge lighting replaced them. Since then, the two southern pylons have been kept operational as the South Stand's roof was unable to accommodate new lights. However, the roof of the South Stand is being replaced this summer, and new lights will be fitted to it, meaning all four pylon towers are to be decommissioned and removed.

One pylon is to be saved (the north-west one) and will be relocated into the football club's car park behind the North Stand and will be retrofitted with mobile phone antennas from the other three pylons, and also to continue to act as a local landmark.
