Besides improving capabilities, the new MRCVs will be custom-built for lean manning and incorporate technologies to automate certain functions. This results in the MRCV using less manpower – about half the size found in modern frigates. In addition, this will result in operational cost savings of up to 10 per cent, compared to similar-sized frigates.

Naval News understands the MRCV will be a surface combatant but it will also act as a mothership for unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV) and unmanned surface vehicles (USV) to extend its reach and flexibility against threats.

Naval News received preliminary information from various sources (who all wished to remain unnamed) that Saab is acting as prime contractor for the program. The design will be based off Denmark’s Odense Maritime Technology (OMT) Iver Huitfeldt / Absalon designs and displace approximately 10,000 tons at full load. It will feature an advanced electric propulsion system. The MRCVs will be assembled in Singapore by ST Engineering. The ships are set to feature Sea Fire radar by Thales and both ASTER and VL Mica surface to air missiles by MBDA. The design will also be able to accommodate mission containerized modules.

Not surprised Saab Kockhums chose the Odense Maritime Technology Iver Huitfeldt / Absalon (and T31) HM&E as basis of the MRCV due to the soundness of its design, but was surprised by the increase in the displacement by 50% to 10,000 tons.

The Indonesian 143 meter A-140 is close to 7000 tons

At the May IMDEX biennial Singaporean maritime and defence show more details revealed of the RSN new Multi-Role Combat Vessel (MRCV). The MoU signed in March betwee Singapore’s Defence Sciences and Technology Agency (DSTA) and Saab responsible for the stealthy design and the smart technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI) and data analytics, OMT involved as the MRCV will be derived from their Iver Huitfeldt/T31 platform, though larger at ~10,000t than the 6,600t IH.
Contract awarded to ST Engineering for the detailed design and construction of the six MRCV ships to be delivered according to the MINDEF from 2028 onwards, which seems very ambitious compared to the T26 whose initial Assessment Phase contract was awarded wayback in 2010.
Thales participating with possible Sea Fire GaN AESA radar and the Aster and VL MICA missiles, already in service with the RSN.

PS Pure speculation it might form basis of bid from Babcock for a future T83

Bit late to the party (Most of the talk about this came last month on the T31 thread)
T83 has an entirely different role, but It will be nice to see how MRCV plays out over the next few years.
