For everything else UK defence-related that doesn't fit into any of the sections above.

The do deserve their fair share of defense spending, but the SNP show their immaturity campaigning to grab all the good bits (shipbuilding), whist campaigning to off load the bad bits (nukes). Suppose I shouldn't expect nationalists to recognize the bigger picture.

English nationalism is just as big a threat to the union as Scottish Nationalism, Welsh nationalism or Irish republicanism.
well to me the UK seems to revolve around scotland we are not allowed to upset them in case heaven forbid they call for another referendum, The UK is never going to be stable with the constant threat of the jocks wanting to leave
maybe because the Scots have been the main nation to say they have had enough of being treated as second class citizens in the UK especially as when Nationalism was rising the main source of revenue coming into the UK was North Sea Oil?

What's her position about heavily armed, well prepared and overmanned armies?
Oh, noone's ever heard of Fortune favoring them, sir.

This is pretty depressing if it is true that we are facing a shortfall of £1 Billion every year in procuring due to the rising costs of replacing aging military hardware

Royal Navy a 'laughing stock' with three quarters of its warships out of action and 'struggling to protect British citizens

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2017/09 ... truggling/

The article also reports engine troubles for HMS Ocean, causing a week long delay.....

Humphrey (@ The Thin Pinstriped Line) does forensics on the above article:
"the article relies on a lot of convenient memories, stitching together of half truths and different bits of the puzzle and forgetting various bits of recent RN history to make it stick" and is a good and informative read even without having read the original article
- a pity that no one seems to have got to the bottom of the genesis of the piece on the F-35 "shambles" by The Times

Considering that I started this thread exactly because of the news about 2018 retirement of the RNs Harpoons, this is indeed a very good news:

Bad press is bad press regardless of the truth and I think this announcement was a no brainer to avoid further articles if we lost the capability all together. As long as a replacement comes on line at the same time as the first T-26 is delivered I will be happy.

Agreed. But considering the history of the various RN gaps in capabilities... :(
