How about a thread on miscellaneous small craft?

For everything else UK defence-related that doesn't fit into any of the sections above.

How about a thread on miscellaneous small craft?

Post by james k »

The new order for RN workboats, army CSB's and workboats. The Island Class and Condor patrol boats used by the MOD police to support security at HM Naval Bases. The craft used to secure the waters around Gibraltar by the Gib Defence Police, Gib Police and Gibraltar Customs. None of the existing RN equipment threads includes these but they all contribute to the main effort of the Royal Navy.

Too big a subject to link every type and service but these are interesting -

Hey there,

It seems that the "Royal Marines Boats" thread here seems to include much of what is mentioned here.

However yes, there are several associated groups that do aid in their own ways, often outside of the public eye. If you aim to have this thread, then perhaps share some information or news on them to help spark a discussion? Generally thats what helps things really take off on here, and saves threads from being too vague, too small scale specific or not receiving any answers.

Even the RM thread could have some life appearing (again) is it were to be up-scoped to include SF?

It's probably better to include the Royal Marines Boats in a wider thread on miscellaneous small craft. The Royal Navy, Army, Royal Marines, MOD Police, Royal Gibraltar Police, Gibraltar Defence Police, British Civil Police, British Overseas Territories Police and Defence Forces all play a part in UK defence and security, support the Royal Navy and have a wide variety of craft large and small.

At one time the Falklands Government used to deploy detachments of the FIDF onto a chartered fishery protection vessel armed with 20mm guns, I don't know if they still do. The civil nuclear authority have one or two vessels to carry nuclear waste and they are also armed with 20mm and light weapons operated by the Civil Nuclear Police. All a part of the UK defence & security operations.

Is it Bermuda or Bahamas that still have conscription; one or the other (Bahamas) has quite an impressive fleet from Damen... and building the base for them was part of the contract.

Bermuda still has conscription and not so very long ago a Royal Bermudan Defence Force patrol boat was sunk by Cuban Migs

james, you had already created a thread for these small boats. Please try to keep new threads from being posted if it could fit into another one that you've already created, thanks.
